1. Why is rice such a common food ingredient in Korean food?

# SPEECH PRACTICE

Talk about products that are mainly made of rice.

 

Rice is a staple food in Korea.

It is never absent from Korean meal.

However, rice is good for more than just cooking it on its own.

Many products with rice as the main ingredients have been released and are on sale.

Sticky rice cakes are the top example.

They are a processed food made mostly with rice.

Eating various types of sticky rice cakes on special occasions is a traditional custom in Korea.

Food companies have rolled out various snacks made from rice.

Some products have become some of the most universally loved snacks in Korea.

Rice noodles are also used in a lot of noodle dishes.

In the past few years, sales of makeolli, or rice wine, have been through the roof.

This has also added to overall rice consumption.

 

[해석]

쌀은 우리나라의 주식이다. 한국인의 밥상에 절대 빠지지 않는다. 그러나 쌀은 밥을 지을 때만 사용되는 것은 아니다. 쌀을 주원료로 한 다양한 식품이 출시되어 판매되고 있다.
가장 대표적인 것이 떡이다. 떡은 주로 쌀을 원료로 해서 만드는 가공 식품이다. 한국에서는 특별한 날에 여러 가지 종류의 떡을 먹는 전통 풍습이 있다.
식품 회사들은 쌀로 만든 과자를 다양하게 출시했다. 일부 상품은 한국에서 가장 널리 사랑받는 과자로 자리 잡았다. 쌀을 원료로 한 면도 여러 면 요리에 사용된다. 최근 몇 년 사이에는 쌀로 빚은 술인 막걸리의 판매가 급증해 전반적인 쌀 소비에도 기여하고 있다.
