We feel wistful about the year’s end, but we also feel a sense of anticipation for the coming year.
Some people go to squares in the city where they ring in the new year with crowds of people.
Others wait quietly for the new year at home with their families.
Some people travel to take in the new year’s first sunrise.
There are several places all over the country that are known to be good for seeing sunrise.
Everyone has a way of their own to end the year.

Some people ring in the new year with crowds of people.
I think drinking to ring in the new year is foolish.
I want to ring in the new year with my family.
3) a way of one’s own 본인만의 방법
Everyone has a way of their own to end the year.
Every student should study in a way of their own.
I know the recipe, but I have a way of my own.

Talk about the things you remember about 2019.
Several events stand out in my mind from this year.
Nationally, there were many conflicts because of political issues.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the public opinion become so polarized.
Internationally, I remember issues due to relations souring between Korea and Japan.
On a personal note, my 15th wedding anniversary was this year.
It took me by surprise that so much time had passed since my wedding.
It was a good year for my career.
I got a great performance assessment at work.
It made me swell with pride.
It helped me lay the groundwork for a promotion next year.
I hope things will be even better next year.

The invitation took me by surprise.
If you prepare enough, nothing will take you by surprise.
3) lay the groundwork for ~을 위한 초석을 마련하다
It helped me lay the groundwork for a promotion next year.
I laid the groundwork for my career during college.
We spent the first few days laying the groundwork for the project.

Things are looking up. 일이 잘 풀리고 있어.
A: Do you have any regrets about 2019?
B: Not really. I like my job, and my family is healthy.
A: I'm glad you have such a positive attitude.
B: Yeah, I'm happy. Things are looking up.
A: 2019년에 후회되는 일은 없어?
B: 별로 없어. 직장도 마음에 들고, 식구들도 건강하잖아.
A: 그렇게 긍정적인 마음가짐이라 나도 기쁘다.
B: 응, 난 행복해. 일이 잘 풀리고 있어.
