# SPEECH PRACTICE

Talk about mandatory military service in Korea.

Technically, Korea is still at war with North Korea. That's why it's a country with mandatory conscription. Korean men are compelled to serve in the military for a certain period.
Korea's military consists of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Each branch of the military has a different period of service. You can apply to whichever you prefer. These days, the periods of service are getting shorter, and the treatment of soldiers is improving.
People develop social skills, patience, and survival skills in the military. The military service becomes a lifelong memory for many people.
