[SPEECH PRACTICE] 

Talk about flight attendants.

 

A common type of private vocational school in Korea is an academy that trains would-be flight attendants.

Some colleges have separate departments or majors aimed at flight attending.

It shows that many people in Korea aspire to become flight attendants.

The vast majority of flight attendants are women, so there are far more women prepping for the job. 

Traveling overseas is no big deal these days.

The number of airlines and flights has increased exponentially.

Airlines are hiring more flight attendants than they did before.

More people are finding work as flight attendants for foreign airlines.

The biggest advantages are that the pay and employee benefits are quite good, and you can travel all around the world as you work.

 

한국에서 흔하게 볼 수 있는 사설 직업 학원 중 하나는 바로 항공 승무원 양성 학원이다. 일부 대학에는 승무원을 양성하는 전문 학과나 전공이 있기도 하다. 이처럼 한국에는 승무원이 되고 싶어 하는 이들이 제법 많다는 것을 알 수 있다. 여성이 절대다수를 차지하는 직종이다 보니, 여성 준비생이 압도적으로 많다.
해외여행이 보편화된 요즘, 항공사와 항공편의 수가 기하급수적으로 늘어났다. 항공사의 승무원 채용 인원도 예전에 비해서는 많아지고 있다. 외국 항공사에 취업하는 승무원들도 늘고 있는 추세이다. 보수와 직원 복지 혜택이 상당히 좋고, 세계 여러 곳을 여행하며 일할 수 있다는 점이 가장 큰 장점이다.

The biggest advantage is that you can travel all around the world as you work.

It is her dream to travel all around the world.
 

[Dialogue Practice]

A: Has your sister landed a job?
B: Yeah, she was hired as a flight attendant for a foreign airline earlier this year.
A: Really? That's great! I heard it's hard to get into an airline. Good for her!
B: You're right. The competition was steep, so she had to prepare for over a year at an academy.
A: Did she get in on her first try?
B: No, she was rejected by a few places last year. She finally made it this year.
A: I see. Is she on international flights?
B: Yes. I think she's on flights all over the world.

A: 네 여동생은 취업했니?
B: 응, 올해 초에 외국 항공사 승무원으로 취업했어.
A: 정말? 잘됐네! 항공사 취업이 어렵다고 하던데. 정말 대견하다!
B: 맞아. 경쟁이 치열해서, 1년 넘게 학원을 다니면서 준비했어.
A: 한 번에 붙은 거야?
B: 아니, 작년에 몇 군데 떨어지고, 올해 드디어 합격한 거야.
A: 그랬구나. 국제선 타는 거야?
B: 응. 전 세계 노선을 다 타는 것 같더라고.
