# SPEECH PRACTICE

Talk about Budda's Birthday in Korea.

Way back in the past, Buddhism was Korea's national religion. 

Perhaps that's why there are still a lot of Buddhists in Korea to this day. 

There are many famous Buddhist temples all across the country. 

Buddhists often visit these temples. 

More and more people are enjoying novel experiences through temple stays.
One of the biggest holidays in Buddhism is Buddha's Birthday. 

The holiday is on April 8th by the lunar calendar. 

The date changes each year on the solar calendar. 

This year, it's on April 30th.
To mark the occasion of Buddha's Birthday, lanterns in various colors decorate the streets starting a few weeks earlier. 

On the day of, various street parades are held, so there are a lot of sights to see.
 

[해석]

아주 오래전에 한국의 국교가 불교였던 시절이 있었다. 그래서 한국에는 아직도 불교 신자가 많은 편이다. 전국 각지에 유명한 불교 사찰들이 많이 있다. 불교 신자들은 이러한 사찰을 자주 찾는다. 템플스테이를 통해 새로운 체험을 즐기는 사람들도 늘어나고 있다.
불교에서 가장 큰 기념일 중에 하나가 바로 석가 탄신일이다. 석가 탄신일은 음력으로 4월 8일이다. 양력 날짜는 매년 달라진다. 올해는 4월 30일이다.
부처님 오신 날을 기념하기 위해, 몇 주 전부터 거리에는 형형색색의 연등이 달린다. 당일에는 다양한 길거리 행렬도 펼쳐져서 멋진 볼거리들이 많다.

B: Yeah. The big lantern sculptures on the river are really pretty, too.
A: I saw them. They were like works of art.
B: Do you want to go check them out tonight?

A: 오늘이 공휴일이지, 그치?
B: 그럼. 석가 탄신일이잖아.
A: 불교에서는 아주 중요한 날 아니야?
B: 맞아. 기독교의 크리스마스와 같다고 보면 돼.
A: 길거리에 있는 연등 장식을 보면 왠지 기분이 좋아져.  
B: 응. 강에 띄워 놓은 큰 연등 조형물도 정말 예쁘더라고.
A: 나도 봤어. 완전히 예술 작품 같았어.
